The Dagg Party Position on the NZ - UK Political Relationship

This goes back to the Thatcher days, but a pretty funny take on things and quite pertinant to today's economic and political climate.

Sunday 31 May 2009

Who is Fred Dagg and why do we like him so much?

As you've probably worked out, there is a bit of a theme going on with our blog site, namely the references to the NZ iconic character, Fred Dagg (see About Us image).

For those of you who are unaware, Fred Dagg is a character created by the satirist John Clarke. Clarke was a well known icon in NZ during the 1970's, on both TV and in literature, appearing on the one channel NZ had back then (we've got 4 now!), and publishing numerous satirist works. More recently he has lived in Australia since 1979 where like pavlova, Phar Lapp, Crowded House and anything else remotely successful he has been claimed by the Australian's. Clarke often appears satirising Australian politicians on TV.

But, back to the character Fred Dagg. Dagg is supposed to be the stereotypical New Zealand farmer and good bloke; clad in a black singlet and gumboots, he comes from the self proclaimed gumboot capital of the world, Taihape in the central North Island.

We've kind of adopted Fred Dagg as an icon because in many ways he optimises the perceptions of the laid back, but hard working and genuine, Kiwi good bloke. We find much of his work still pretty funny and in tribute (or due to nothing else to do) we'll be adding various clips onto the blog at different points which we'll hope you enjoy.

Super 14 Grand Final

It has to be said, the Bulls were pretty awesome yesterday, and the Chiefs, were...well, rubbish. The above image of Habana scoring and Muliaina looking on probably sums up the game really.

Antonio our office manager will be pretty happy with the result, and rightly so. Our money is on a white wash by the Boks over the Lions in the forthcoming series. Barring injuries it could well be a one sided Tri-Nations as well.

If it all turns to custard for the AB's this year, at least we can look forward to the Black Caps at the Twenty 20 World Cup and the Ashes (for the record we're 50/50 divided on who to support for that one).

North Korean Nuclear Situation

This has nothing at all to do with London or moving, but it's still funny...and pretty accurate.

Here are some images of our new livery on the trucks :-)

Tip of the Day

However many boxes/items you think you have, as a general rule add on 30% when telling your mover for a quote...

MP's Expenses

There has been quite a lot of media headlines recently about MP's expenses and in particular how frivolous these have been in rorting the already depleted public coffers. Examples of this outrageous behaviour have included; paying off mortgages, flipping houses for rent, flat renovations etc...

Kiwi Movers also joins in condemnation of this outrageous waste of taxpayers money. As a matter of public record, we would like answers to the following:

1. Just how many MP's have moved house/flat in the last 12 months?
2. Which Removals companies did they use and just how much did they cost?
3. How can Kiwi Movers get ourselves on to this bandwagon?

If any MP's are watching this blog or if anyone knows an MP, give them our details (0800 988 69 55 or info@kiwimovers.co.uk), and we'll do our bit for getting the nation's books out of the red by giving any current (or outgoing) MP a 15% discount. This may help those MP's who have suddenly decided to spend more time with the kids or trimming the roses in the garden...

If Jeremy Paxman, The Daily Telegraph or Guido Fawkes see this post, please feel free to mention us on Newsnight, the front page of the Telegraph or on your blog. In the words of that 'other' great British institution, Tesco's..."Every little helps"...

Movie Magic

Over the last few weeks we've been beavering away to improve our branding and marketing. As part of that we have upgraded our website (with more to come), re branded our trucks with our new livery and finally we have also been working on our first video. We are currently working on the final editing for this and expect to have it unveiled in about 10 days.

The video should be a little cracker, after enlisting the help of Ashley Davies who has done an awesome job! As a sneak peak, check out these images taken on the day by Tony Wagener our General Manager.

A big thank you though to Kenny, Flo, the team from Atlantic Productions and the little fella...Noah! (see image above)

Cheers Team.

Well, this is our first attempt at blogging. Not sure what exactly to write as yet, but will no doubt come up with something extremely interesting and engaging.

Stay tuned...
